Organising the MRCPsych Part I Clinical Examination

In Autumn 1987 the new Part I Membership examination was held for the first time. The format was changed in response to the Royal College of Psychiatrists Working Party, who recommended that it should become an examination in basic clinical psychiatry. It was felt to be important that clinical skills were assessed early in training.
